The latest edition of the Renton Reporter ran a nice story about Jet City Espresso, the eclectic coffee shop at the corner of Second and Main Street.
As the article points out, the land and building have been for sale for some time now, and the coffee shop (which many consider to be a community “living room” may have to relocate at some point in the future. For now, if you haven’t dropped by to see the place, I recommend you stop in for some coffee and a snack.
And, if any readers have pictures that I may post of the eclectic furnishings, or visitors who don’t mind being on the web, I would love to have the photos.
From time to time I’ve met with many of Jet City’s regulars for some very involved policy discussions over coffee at Jet City, and I hope the friendly and popular coffee shop can find a place ot relocate (as opposed to disappearing) if/when a new building is built on the site.
I think it sucks that its getting torn down.. I really dig that place.
Sad Goodbye
Although some of your fans here have trashed Jet City’s trash, the fact remains that it is a wonderful and unique part of the Renton community. The regular customers and the baristas all genuinely care about each other, and share their camaraderie generously with all who enter. Over the years, many lasting friendships have been initiated and nurtured in those comfortably jumbled surroundings. Our City will be missing an irreplaceable piece of its character if high rents force this “friends and family” gathering place to disappear instead of relocating. In that event, we will all be poorer- in the most important sense of the word.
I think it’s done
The character of the place will be destroyed and can’t be artificially created in a new location. If it does, the sterile recreation would pale in comparison to the real place, like a Disneyfied-recreation of what it was.

Randy,
Thanks for the kind words about Jet City Espresso! Yes, it is frequented by many citizens who are actively involved in making Renton a better place to live, as well as those concerned with the welfare of the world at large. Perhaps we’re just following in the tradition of our country’s forefathers, as the Declaration of Independence and elements of our US Constitution were developed over lively discussions in community coffeehouses of the day.
I have loads of great photos that provide a wonderful historical perspective of our local community gathering spot over the past two decades. I’ll send you some. Very much appreciate the offer to post them.
Those of you wishing to own a bit of Renton History, stay tuned for the big sale and auction (date & location still TBD)I will have to lighten our load a bit. Now a bit of “Renton’s living room” can be in your living room.
It’s been a most rewarding honor and privilege serving this community,
Debbie Natelson
