Note: This is a different incident than the double-shooting at the Jack in the Box described in the blog below
RENTON, Wash. — A man was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after being shot during a robbery attempt on Monday night.
Police spokesman Penny Bartley said a 911 call led police to the 3000 block of Royal Hills Drive SE around 7:20 p.m.
They arrived to find the 39-year-old Seattle man, whose name has not been released, shot in the back and lying near his car.
An officer on the scene said the man was conscious when police arrived; however, he was taken to Harborview Medical Center in dire condition.
It is not known what the thief or thieves were after. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
They searching for three men whom they believe fled on foot from the scene of the shooting. Detectives are working to determine their relationship to the victim. A description of the men was not available.
I challenge every Renton citizen to go to Royal Hills apartments and take a look. It is a dead end to a different society. You’ll be nervous just driving through there. If you are brave, get out of your car and take a walk around. Take a video camera and document what you see. Many things happen in that area that go unreported. Please don’t ask any questions of what goes on in there until you take a look for yourself. It is not a very comfortable environment.
I have lived in Renton highlands my whole life (I am 23), and i have no idea where this is located at. Please elaborate…
3000 SE Royal Hills Dr. It’s at the end of Puget Drive, past Falcon Ridge
That place needs to be nuked from orbit.
We have an obligation to clean that place up – not only for ourselves, but for the tenants.
I’d hate to think of how I’d turn up if I lived there.
Instead (this is how it looks from here) – the city won’t do *anything*. They don’t want to piss off the slum lords.
I know the city has great people – but for some reason they give slum-lords a free pass. These slum-lords are ruining our city, and just and importantly ruining the lives of their tenants.
It’s not right.
That place has been a problem for over 30 years. Look back and you’l see there has been nothing but drugs, shootings, and rapes in that area. It has been like that forever. It’s a hidden area. Out of site, Out of mind.
You know… Ryan and I have been thinking about moving to Renton… but after reading the last two posts, I’m not so sure anymore. 😉
Hope you’re doing well. Say hello to your lovely wife for me!
Stefanie
Come to Renton! We love you 😉
Come to Renton! The place is awesome.
There’s apartment blocks in Bellevue that are just as bad, Seattle has ones five times as bad.
Renton is quite safe – we’re just picking on the few bad spots, but every decent sized city has a bad area or two.
If you took all my rants about Renton’s few problems – you’d think it was a desert wasteland filled with slums and McMansions and chain stores.
It’s not – where else can you get BBQ from five different cultures, a beach-front park, a helicopter ride, halal food, Sushi, Cadillac’s and Target all within waking distance.

WOW, RentonBen, you just wrote the next ad for the City of Renton!!! Thanks for the nice pitch for our great City (“where else can you get BBQ from five different cultures, a beach-front park, a helicopter ride, halal food, Sushi, Cadillac’s and Target all within waking distance.”). It seems the rest of the world is discovering what we Rentonnites have known for years: Renton is a jewel and has so many treasures we enjoy living and/or working here. It’s just going to continue getting better and better with Mayor Law at the helm!
