Ralph Nader seems bent on destroying everything he has ever stood for. In restarting his role as spoiler, Obama will now be competing in the general election with one hand tied behind his back.
I think Ralph Nader’s last run for president was a disaster, and I resent him even more for doing it again. I don’t know what he hopes to accomplish. If he just wants to contribute to the dialog, he should get himself a radio show like Rush Limbaugh, or a blog like this one. Becoming a candidate is a sure-fire way to make sure that the next president, whether republican or democrat, is elected by a plurality…a minority of voters.
Grrr…..

Nader Announces Another Presidential Bid
Ralph Nader is launching a third-party campaign for president. The consumer advocate made the announcement Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” He says most Americans are disenchanted with the Democratic and Republican parties, and that none of the presidential contenders are addressing ways to stem corporate crime and Pentagon waste and promote labor rights.
Good for him!
Who says that you have to be blessed by the Democrat/Republican party gods to seek election? It’s a free country – get some better ideas if little-ol’ Ralph is a spoiler. Better ideas than “Se se puede” and “Billary.”
Our current political parties are offshoots of other dead-and-gone parties – and it’s good to give people choices other than the “Republicrat” corporate/pandering whores we have now.
I disagree *vehemently* with Ralph’s platform – but if he chose a thoughtful running mate, I’d vote for him in a heartbeat: We need some honesty in our government.
Life isn’t about *winning* – it’s about doing what’s right. If Ralph’s cannidacy causes a long-term shift in the Democrats to go back to their honorable populist roots, then good. Recently, the Democrats have just been “Republican Lites” with out closeted homosexual fun.
Re: Good for him!
I love having everyone run for president who wants to… that is as American as it can get. However, we should then have a real primary, like we do in the city of Renton, where we whittle the field to the two top vote-winners. The two favorites should then run against each other. That way, in the general election, we’re sure we’re getting the majority’s top choice. Having two liberals run against one conservative in the general election is not a good way to ensure that the person who best represents the voters will win.
Ralph Nader will never win, so he is pure-and-simple a spoiler. If he does not like the candidates, he should work within the system to get some candidates he does like. Alienating himself further and further from both parties only marginalizes him further, and makes him less likely to ever succeed at getting his environmental and consumer causes through the system.
It might be different if he had a chance, but he made too much of a mess of things in 2000, and he has started too late, to have a hope of winning anywhere.
Re: Good for him!
Ralph has never stood for anything except the Limelight on Ralph. I doubt anyone is going to fall for it again, if they ever did. Don’t forget, as one of our famous Renton citizens has proven, voting machines had more to do with the outcome than Ralph Nader.
Re: Good for him!
“”Ralph has never stood for anything except the Limelight on Ralph.””
Exactly
even Hilary said it , “last time Ralph ran because he compared Gore and Bush on the same plain.. he was SOOO Wrong”
Re: Good for him!
Like I said, I can’t stand Ralph’s positions on a lot of things – but the little bugger has done more to help America that the Bush W, Carter and LBJ combined.
His actions have saved the lives of hundreds of thousands, and millions over the world.
I guess don’t understand the hate for Ralph. He’s telling it like he sees it and I, for one, respect that.
Here’s a toast to the people who do the right thing, like Ralph, not the easy thing.
Re: Good for him!
I agree we should require a majority of votes to win rather than just a plurality. In addition to a top-two primary system, we should also consider using an “instant run-off” or “rank choice” voting system. Either system would eliminate the “spoiler effect” while still allowing people to vote their heart without “throwing their vote away.”
More power to him for running, I am not a fan of thirds parties, I am a fan of the two. But for him this is his way of getting his view out there with three other pretty weak in my opinion candidates. If there is anyone else out there who wants to put money out there and make there candidacy known go ahead I don’t care if you Communist party of Nazi party just because I do not agree with you doesn’t mean you do not have any rights this is America people.
Last thing yes he has changed his views on many things. But again in America we have the choice to change our view don’t we? Just ask one of our newest council members.
What’s your last sentence about?
