Many people were wondering why NE 4th was closed last night. Here is the answer.

Oh, how awful! Last night was a terrible time to be crossing streets with no traffic light, I’m certain of that- I nearly had someone mashed into my own grille who was crossing Newport Way in the complete dark. People, use the crosswalks. They’re there for a reason.
Let’s go back to what’s GOOD about Renton! I’m sure the news and papers cover the negative stuff quite thoroughly! Someone has to cover the GOOD news!!
yeahyeah I know, negative exists. . but so does the positive! Let’s see it!!
4 million pedestrians were NOT hit by cars yesterday in the extremely ever popular Renton despite the visiblity. and the efforts of the drivers!
I disagree, these post are useful, and highlight a growing and alarming danger in the highlands, and elsewhere. This is at least the 2nd pedestrian killed in the past couple of months in the same area, one being a very good friend. Sugar coating news does a disservice to the victims (my friend leaves a 5 month old behind) and well as the threat to others. What these posts point out is, increase in growth, traffic, and stressed out commuters are creating a dangerous environment, and local city government needs to be aware and create policy to alleviate this unacceptable situation. Randy posting this on the blog, tells me that he is aware, along with the rest of the council.
Positives will come out of notifications like these, with increased emphasis on widening roads, traffic control, sane growth policies!
Hear, hear. 4th is becoming a dangerous stretch of highway. Development to the east is going to only make it worst not better. I have no idea when capacity will be reached, but it doesn’t seem far off. I know everybody that sees it, knows this will one day become a front burner issue. Lets all watch and see what the city of Renton does about it.
I’m sorry for your friend.
Did the second person learn from the death of the first? And did the third avoid a tragedy because of this post? Did they LEARN from live journal?
My point is… the news and the papers and letters to the city government cover all that. This is live journal.
I never said to sugar coat the news, I just don’t believe it belongs here. And if this is going to bring the positive, be sure to post THAT side of it.
We could spend every minute of every day posting negative stuff that happens in this world. there’s a lot of it. BUT good stuff happens too! When we think about bad stuff, it attracts more and more and more. So why not think about good stuff?
I’m off to smile in the sunshine. (I’m in Arizona)
I enjoy this blog because it talks about of all sorts of information and events that impact us here in Renton;
1. Highlight cool things going on- like the Landing
2. Provide insight to city government (good & bad)- like the election coverage, lipstickgate, lawsuits against council members
3. Alert & highlight events that could lead to action and improvement of our lives- like the recent tragedies, and hopefully, a call to action to improve our quality of life here.
On a side note, at least in my buddies case, it was not simply one person dying that horrible day, rather it was the incredible mark he left on literally hundreds of others, most of them from Renton. I am sure the gal that was run down, also had a significant impact on many Renton lives. I do not view seeing information about either as reporting bad news just because it is bad, but rather reporting on horrific events that will have a huge impact on many of us, long after this blog is moved on.
have fun in Arizona (just got back for rainy, windy southern CA! At least the lines at Disneyland were short!)
