Yay Renton! You turn 105 years old tomorrow!
I’ve been enjoying the public birthday wishes for Renton that are being posted by our citizens in the comments section of Renton’s MySpace site!

Happy Birthday Renton!
This is also an appropriate time to look back on Renton’s Centenial celebration five years ago: We had a ceremony and fireworks in Liberty Park on September 6 after a great summer of partying!
Tragically, the happy mood came to an abrupt end 5 days later with the 9/11 terror attack.

Happy Bday to Renton too
This is a note from Inez Somerville Petersen. I want everyone to know that I don’t hate Renton and wish Renton a very Happy Birthday. I don’t know what made the Beckley’s so angry that they had to march down to the city council meeting and make such foolish statements about me and the HCA. First, I was invited to write an article for the Fairwood Flyer, and I’m pro incorporation, so the article was, of course, pro incorporation; and it was truthful in every respect. Dear Phil, that doesn’t mean I hate Renton, it only means I have another opinion–and it’s still OK for free thinkers to live in Renton, isn’t it? Second, the HCA has done marvelous things for the community; but according to some, the worst day in the history of Renton occurred on the day I became HCA secretary. Well, Heidi Beckley and Sally Rochelle, I’ve got news for you and the other people who are so angry about this. Membership in the HCA is open to anyone in the City, anyone can be on the HCA Board too who is willing to do the work. Just go to http://hca-renton.org and click on the link entitled ACCOMPLISHMENTS. What’s not to like about any one of the accomplishments listed? And that doesn’t even include the countless hours the HCA Board has put in coordinating with neighbors to fix up and clean up the Highlands Study Area. I’ve shown pictures of improvements at prior council meetings, and I have more. One of the worst duplexes is now sold to a doctor who will build a beautiful home there, because of Howard McOmber, the HCA property advisor, took the time to work with the family. The City could have coordinated with the family to sell this duplex a long time ago too, but then the mayor couldn’t have used it as an example to justify a Declaration of Blight. The HCA is a community minded neighborhood association with Board members are are educated and motivated to work for the social good of the Highlands area, and the whole city for that matter. You can criticize me and you can criticize the HCA, but you can’t change reality: The HCA is working hard to influence the neighborhood and the city. And I think we are succeeding, otherwise why would the “City Hall Political In Crowd” be so upset? All this criticism prompted me to start a new website with information about how to vote at the next election. Remember Marcie Maxwell, Renton’s Citizen of the Year? Well, she wrote something that will be posted there soon. Shame on her. You’ll need to keep checking back as I have just started to load video clips and other information on this site at http://InieLeague.org. Happy Birthday, Renton, and Happy Anniversary to Randy and Cathy. Isn’t it great that the mayor wasn’t able to condemn their home so many years ago for developer gain. The developer wanted his entrace on their property to free up his own land for more houses. That story is on his website, check it out. The Internet is a wonderful too; it is going to enable Truth to reach the voters, and the next election will be a very different story. The day of the “City Hall Political In Crowd” is just about over. Cheer, everyone, cheer!
