Several people have noticed an abundance of helicopters in Renton skies recently…yes, I can anticipate the sarcastic question, …are they “black helicopters” :-). Appearantly, Fort Lewis is conducting helicopter and fixed wing exercises in Renton area.
I don’t know the nature of the exercise…I would guess some sort of training, but I don’t really know.

Hello,
The airport has been getting some complaints recently about excessive helicopter
noise in local neighborhoods.
I spoke with the FAA regional office and they received notice that Fort Lewis is
conducting military operations in the area. This activity is expected to
continue through tomorrow night. According to the FAA, these flights are both
helicopters and fixed wing aircraft. Also, this activity can be expected to
continue to occur at low altitudes.
Resident questions can be forwarded to a military public affairs number at
706-545-4260.
Thanks,
Jonathan Wilson

I live in Issaquah, and it sounded like a chinook helicopter. Those operations
did not come from Renton. We received about 5-6 other noise complaints last night. We are still checking to see if our guess is right (military) or
whether it was the King County Sheriff or DEA.

Ryan,
(a citizen) called the Mayor’s Office
last night at 8:00pm and left a voice mail. The last two evenings there have
been helicopters flying low over his neighborhood, setting off car alarms.
He wants to know why they are flying so low, and if anything can be done about
it. I figured you would know if there’s someone he can talk to find out about
the helicopters and their flight path (FAA?).
Please email me after you talk to him and let me know what transpired.
thanks, april
p.s. Both Tami & I have heard helicopters flying low in our neighborhoods in
Kent the past couple of evenings…

I understand the need to conduct military training exercises, but at 11pm at night?!
I would appreciate it if someone could explain what upset citizens should do when the buzzing is incessantly going on over my house.
They are literally circling the neighborhood, over and over and over and over again. It’s infuriating.
Should we be calling the city? The county? The state? What Federal agency?

After some additional Googling, I found this resource:
http://www.seattle.gov/dpd/Enforcement/Noise_Abatement/Filing_a_Noise_Complaint/default.asp
Why do are they training over populated areas? There is something that doesn’t sync here. There are lots of places they can practice flying low without being over populted areas. There is something else going on. I everyone would report when they go over their house and put a cross street with it we could at least figure out what the flight path is. That may give us a clue of what it is all about.
They say why they do training over populated areas…because they fight in populated areas sometimes, and need to train. Unless you as a taxpayer want to fund constant construction of various cities for these guys to train in, live with it for a couple of nights.
If they told you in advance, you’d probably try to make them stop before-hand.
This is very strange! All year round I’ve been seeing this white helicopter and 3 times now I’ve woken up to a helicopter hovering over my apartment building here in Klahanie, only 100 feet above. It hovers for a good 10 seconds then leaves. I tried taping it with my iPhone but when I tried to play it back my iPhone said the recording wasn’t supported and can’t playback. Also there have been drones that constantly fly around. I found on the Washington state map of where testing of drones is being conducted and found an area in the highlands that the government is based for this particular action. I mean what’s up with that?
