It’s a great idea. Residents are going to detour anyway to avoid the construction. There is easy access for residents via Union Ave NE or through Summerwind. It makes it a lot safer for the construction crews also, plus takes a year off the project.
Randy, I very much appreciate your insight to the difficult issue of what to do with the Duval/Coal Creek construction. At Monday’s meeting, I felt you were one of the few council members who appeared interested in our comments, and ideas. As I stated in my comments at the meeting, I was prepared to argue for keeping Coal Creek Open, but became convinced it would be best to get it done in a year, and try to minimize the impact on our community. I understand this will come up for the vote this coming Monday, after the transportation reviewed some of the ideas. Do you have any more status?
I thought the suggestion of starting construction in June as opposed to February would be an effective way to minimize the morning commute, by ensuring the majority of the year long closure would occur during the summer months with school out. I can confirm that traffic does diminish during those months, sometimes dramatically! A delay of 4 months, would still put the project completion date very close to the planned completion date of the New Castle section. I hope the council takes this suggestion seriously.
Good luck with the debate!
