I was interviewed by the Seattle Times regarding the Haskins campaign recently, and I gave twnety minutes worth of commentary to a reporter. However, it was pointed out to me today that from the quotes the Times used, it was not obvious where I stood relative to the basic issue of domestic partnerships and rights of the LGBT community.
As a reminder, I strongly supporter the new domestic partnership law, and I commend our City of
Renton unions for deciding to extend health benefits to domestic partners in 2008.
Here is the link to the position I took on the domestic partnership law while it was still in debate in March.
Thank you, Randy
While I’m not a city employee, there must be a lot of LGBT people working for the city — gay and striaght — that are really impressed by your stand on this issue, Randy.
Speaking of domestic partnership issues…
Despite the fact that most of the signs opposing Cheryl Haskins I put up around town have gone missing, I still have quite a few left — maybe 100 or so out of the original 250. Anyone interested in picking up and posting signs around town this weekend should email me at at southlakewa@mac.com. Areas of particular focus would be the Highlands, downtown, Rainier Ave, Talbot Hill, and North Renton. It’d be best if you have your own staple gun and hammer. Even putting up just five or ten signs would make a difference… until they’re taken down, that is.
I’m concerned that people with less than honorable intentions might try to take advantage of this situation, so if I don’t personally know you, I ask that you provide me with a local reference, preferably someone who’s been supportive of LGBT issues (or, as Ken Hutcherson calls them, “Homosexualists”). Sorry for the paranoia, but I apparently need to be concerned about such things now.
A special note to the Haskins campaign: I am not requesting financial contributions from anyone, nor “in kind” contributions, so please don’t waste more taxpayer money by filing another frivolous PDC complaint against me, OK?
