I really enjoy the hometown greeting as I arrive back in Renton from my job near King County Airport (Boeing Field). Lately, more often than not I’ve spotted sign wavers at one or more of the intersections on my way through town.
To all of you who care so much for your city that you are out there smiling at motorists, and sharing your choice for mayor or councilmember, I commend you. Your enthusiasm and dedication really show.
And to all Renton Citizens, let’s all rememeber to get those ballots in the mail, and tell our friends to be sure and vote in this important election.
Best Wishes,
Randy
No thoughts on the Times’ endorsement of the mayor? I wrote ’em a letter telling them how they should have done their research. Dummies.
I posted the same question this morning, but it was deleted right away, is that somthing you did Randy? If so, why?
I was getting attacked by a spambot this morning. The spam robot kept reposting an endorsement of the mayor, over and over. I ultimately knocked it out by blocking its IP address, but I think I lost your comment in the process.
Like you said, they should have done some research. When people know what is going on, they endorse Denis. When they don’t, they endorse the incumbent mayor because they see things happening in Renton. ( They don’t know how hard the council and the rest of the community is working to keep these things happening.)
This is why Denis is getting so many endorsements from so many members and leaders of the Renton community, while Kathy gets the majority of hers from out-of-town.
But I don’t wish to start arguments with all the out of towners… so I’m just chalking these up to lack of information.
I have had comments deleted as well when i was asking about your view on the landing i reposted it earlier.
Here is your original comment on the Landing (I think), along with my response.
Click here I rarely delete comments, but it is easy for them to get lost amongst all the new articles.
Best Wishes,
Randy
Ok i see it was moved for some reason i had the page book marked
I didn’t know he was having to pay people to make calls on this big push, yes i asked the caller if they were being paid and they said yes.
so what?
I contributed to Denis’s campaign so he would have the resources to do anything legal to win. People are busy, and there’s only so much volunteers can do, regardless of how dedicated and committed they are. This race will likely be close. If a paid caller gets out the winning vote for him, I’ll be thrilled!
Are you saying Denis’ campaign is paying people to make calls? That’s absolutely not true, other than his paid campaign manager. There has been a flurry of volunteers doing the calling along with the campaign manager, people who have been offering for a long time to help in whatever way they can.
Take a look at any of the photos of Denis (like on his website). Denis is always smiling, listening and on his feet WITH people. Because he is a humble man, he would prefer to have other people in the photo instead of him, but has recognized that during this campaign, he HAS to be included in the pictures. He’s certainly not a publicity seeker; just a humble public servant, and anyone that’s had the privelge of working alongside him, knows the truth.
Please, because someone smiles in a photo means nothing.
exactly i was asked the other day when i was down at the Old Fashion Halloween ting on Saturday if i could take a picture with a gentleman and his granddaughter I said yes he then was placing me in front of a window full of all Denis Law signs so i asked he he would rather have the street behind us showing a beautiful fall day in the city of Renton he said no that ok and that was it. I had not made me decision at that point but i didn’t want my picture to end up somewhere making me look like a supporter when i was unsure.
The mark of a man
I’ve only known Denis Law since 1992, and I’ve had the privilege of working closely with him only the past 3 years. Full disclosure: I’m associate publisher of our publications. So, yes, I have a personal interest in the outcome of the mayoral election.
Over the past 15 years there are many, many times Denis has stepped up and volunteered. He shows up early, fully prepared, and follows through. He is not interested in getting credit, just in getting things done. When he sets out to raise money for a cause, he sets the bar high and challenges and cajoles until the goal is met or exceeded.
But it’s this story I want to share with Renton voters, because there is no other way you will know. Denis certainly won’t say anything. In late September we learned that our friend, John Andrist, had died. Before a massive brain-stem stoke in 1993, John Andrist and Mary Koch published the newspaper in Omak. Denis, John and Mary had served on many newspaper association committees and boards together, but Denis hadn’t seen John for many years. (I worked with all of them as executive director of the state newspaper association.) When I told him of John’s death, Denis said he wanted to know when services would be, because he would like to go.
On Sept. 29, Denis picked me up about 11 a.m., drove us to Omak to the funeral, then briefly to Mary’s house, and then straight home. He dropped me off about 10 p.m. He willingly missed a day of campaigning and meeting people to attend his friend’s funeral, and to offer his condolences to Mary. He wanted to pay his respects to John, and was glad to have done it.
I think the mark of character is what we do when no one can see. This is just one day of many. But it isn’t the only one. Many of Denis’s friends and family have their own stories of him “when no one can see.” It’s what makes us devoted to him.

Re: The mark of a man
Thanks for sharing that, Diana. That is truly the Denis we all know and love.
Denis’ volunteers making calls – not paid callers
What a silly rumor……
I have made calls for Denis and several other Denis supporters have made calls. We are not paid and volunteer our time because we know Denis is the only choice for Renton mayor.
Re: Denis’ volunteers making calls – not paid callers
I can also attest Denis’s phone-callers are volunteers. Interestingly, Kathy Keolker used a recorded phone blast in her last campaign… I don’t know if she is planning this again. Yep, a robot called my house. Here is my proof
Re: Denis’ volunteers making calls – not paid callers
So why are the Law callers saying they are paid i am voting Law but it sounds like if he is having to pay people to call he is getting nervous.
Re: Denis’ volunteers making calls – not paid callers
He is NOT paying callers!! They are volunteers!
Re: Denis’ volunteers making calls – not paid callers
You are a real politician you do the bait and change track. Like people asked why are the callers saying they are being paid?
Denis is not paying people to call. We are doing it as volunteers. I’m curious as to who is making this accusation.
I just checked with Denis. Ryan is the only paid staff person at the headquarters making calls. The poster must have been called by him.
Otherwise, ALL of the callers are volunteers.
So Ryan is a woman? Because that is the one I am talking about
