The new Renton Target Store has been open for a few days in a “soft opening” warm up for their big day tomorrow. Renton residents are reporting that they are really enjoying the convenience of having a Target so close to home.
In the top picture below, new Target Employees are getting some last minute coaching as customers enter the store for the first time. In the lower picture, mayoral candidate Denis Law and Renton Technical College CEO Don Bressler are checking out the cool stuff in the Halloween aisle for the first time. You can see how large and bright the new store is.
Everyone is invited to the formal ribbon cutting tomorrow at 8:00 AM sharp. If you attend, be sure to look for me and say Hi!
Thanks for persevering and getting the approval process completed which allowed this project to happen. I noticed that Brad Nicholson, a.k.a. the front man for Sorelosertowne Southcenter’s group Alliance for the South End, wrote an “editorial” in the Renton Reporter today, rambling that those of you sued by Dishonest Dan need to just buck up and pay the fine.
I think after the election is done, you guys should re-consider the Renton Reporter being the “official newspaper” and give the designation to the Times. Our hamster does enjoy leaving his mark on the paper, though, when his cage gets lined with it.
By the way — we at that other site really enjoyed seeing one of the letters to the editor. The graphic you put in one of your previous posts was almost prophetic.
Wow, I guess I’m not the only one who thinks the Renton Reporter is a sad excuse for a local “news” paper. It was a heck of a lot better before it was sold. I liked the coverage of Lipstickgate, for instance. I’m sorry, but I can only stomach so many touching stories about senior citizens and community volunteers.
That op-ed piece by Brad Nicholson today was really bizarre. I have no idea what he was trying to say. Why on earth would the editor provide him with so much space, when far more pressing issues — like Cheryl Haskins campaign finances — didn’t get any coverage? Sigh.
I didn’t make it to the event (too early!), but I did go shopping at the store later, and it was fun! It’s really going to be nice to be able to shop in a non-crazy environment just down the hill, as opposed to Wal-Mart, where I always feel like I’m going to get run over by a shopping cart. Or Fred Meyer, where I always seem to get approached by people in the parking lot asking for gas/crack money. Plus, Target has good quality clothing, food, and home furnishings. Granted, we’re not talking Macy’s or Whole Foods here, but I’m pretty excited. Of course, nothing would make me happier than to have a Trader Joe’s at The Landing, but that’s really up to TJs… I know Harvest Partners is really trying to get them in there.
Speaking of The Landing, Randy, do you have any idea why the developers chose to build apartments rather than condos? Is the intention to sell the units as condos at some point? I know a lot of people who’d be interested in buying one. I guess renting units out for a while to cover the construction costs is a good plan, but we could definitely use more condos for singles and couples in this town.
