I would not have guessed we would see so many sparks fly at tonight’s meeting. The agenda seemed simple enough.
The two main controversies developed over “downtown wayfinding signs” and “building design guidelines.” The common theme with both issues was that individual councilmembers and other stakeholders felt excluded from the decision process. But in both cases a straightforward request to allow more input started a barrage of insults. Yikes!
I’ll have plenty to write about this, but it’s too late tonight.
Good night all,
Randy
Just watching it now — Mr. Clawson sure was in a mood last night, wasn’t he? I’m at the point right now where the Mayor had to bang the gavel (“I don’t want to work, I’m just gonna bang with my gavel all daaayyyy”) — nice comment there!
And to think that I thought things would get a bit more civil when the “unofficial ombudsman of Renton” left. One would think, from his comments, that Mr. Clawson was up for election this year.
“Have you *read* the ordinance, Randy?” My, my, my…
“Nobody has any faith on what has been done in Committee.”
I hope the minutes from this discussion aren’t sanitized like the discussion about council policies was — “discussion ensued.” Please push for more detailed minutes. I can just see it:
“Councilmember Corman moved to suspend the rules and allow further discussion. Councilmembers Clawson and Briere yelled at Councilmember Corman and the speaker.”
