Renton’s newest optometry, Eyes on the Landing , celebrated it’s grand opening yesterday with a ribbon cutting, live music by one of the two singers in “Bomshel”, and a great party that went on for hours. The store has actually been open for business since the day after Thanksgiving, so yesterday’s events were partly to officially recognize the opening, and partly to simply celebrate the successful first months of the fun, new business.

Good luck to anyone with the gumption to open a business at all in Washington state. As long as they make OK money then the mentality will allow it to operate. Make too much money and some cry baby who is too lazy to make it in life will cry foul and the villification of the business will start.
Of course this is insurance based so it stands a chance at working, but in this economy and so many less expensive alternatives such as Costco why would this business flourish?
It’s possible. My family and many of their friends operated small business and some of them actually made it quite well. It’s a combination of know-how, personality, hard-work, and of course, luck. We barely made minimal wage after all the hours but being new comer to this country, there wasn’t whole lot of choices.
I know I don’t have the right stuff so I’m just another salary collecting drone.
There’s a market for fashion glasses and personal service, that’s for sure. Just had a friend that paid $300 for a pair of custom made safety rated glasses.
Best of luck to them.

It’s good to know people still have a vision to make it themselves and take the risk in these times. I still submit that if the amount of taxation were not so onerous to new starts then the economy would stand a better chance of rebounding. The government does a good job at making a private business owner out to be someone with too much money. These are the highest risk takers and it is short sighted not to build in a lower taxation rate on start-ups so they can get their feet beneath them.
