It’s a sad day for Arizona and our nation, as one of our members of congress battles for her life after being attacked by a gunman. While information is still coming in, it is known that Gabrielle Giffords and her aides and bystanders were attacked today at a public event with constituents.
The gunman is alive and in custody, but his history, motivations and mental condition are not publicly known at this time.
In my lifetime I can only remember one congressional assassination, and that was of Leo Ryan at Jonestown when I was in high school. That attack was initiated by Jim Jones, one of the craziest people of all time. If there were other assassination attempts on members of congress, I can’t remember them as if this writing. These types of attacks are very rare in our country, which is obviously a very good thing because they are an immediate threat to our democracy.
My prayers to all of those directly affected by today’s tragedy, and for the continuing freedom and security of Arizona and our Nation.

The news is getting more tragic… according to an update on MSNBC a federal judge and child were killed in this attack. Here is the developing story.
As more info about the shooter becomes available, 3.1 million American Muslims can breath a sigh of relief.
It looks like the guy was just nuts: A flag-burner than had the Communist Manifesto as one of his favorite books.

Thanks for the link Ben….weird stuff. Currency, terrorists, language, sleep… I agree the guy seems to have lost his mind. I’ve infrequently seen letters come in to city hall with similar weird statements, conclusions, and rantings, but I never really feel threatened by them. It’s probably impossible to know when someone who is making crazy rants will suddenly turn violent.
I hope the craziest people you ever see at city hall are the Larouche supporters. 🙂
What an unfortunate incident. This guy is a total whacko. Too bad there wasn’t a law abiding citizen carrying a handgun to end this tragedy immediately. Everyone there was totally defenseless. A few quick rounds in his face could have stopped it and saved some lives. My prayers are with the victims. TCC
The only problem with that is they would probably charge the law abiding citizen with endangering those that were saved/protected.
Good point. You should call up the survivors and the families of the victims and tell them they’re responsible for getting shot.
