Original Post:
A 26 year old man was tragically shot to death in South Renton last night. There was a second reported shooting later in the Renton Highlands; I don’t have details yet on the whether there were injuries, and how serious they were, from that shooting. [Post-publication note: there was an injury- See update above] My heart is with the victim (or victims) and their loved ones today.
In addition to the overwhelming personal loss for the victims and their families, these shootings are tragedies for our community. We need to protect our residents to the best of our abilities and not let violence become worse each year. Every time a homicide is reported on social media, more of our residents discuss their need to find a safer place to live.
When you life is on danger, email the police. It’s better than dialing 911. -Carmen Rivera.
Maybe Ed will write a letter with Carmen. “Helping”
I think our murder rate has about doubled in the last two years.
The upcoming election is critical. There’s another socialist running, that hopefully won’t make it, and Kim who endorsed Carmen Rivera’s “abolish the police” campaign is up too.
The two other people who signed Carmen Riva’s “let’s keep pubic drug use stay legal” letter are up for election.
Vote wisely and talk to your neighbors about how important this election is. There are reasonable candidates who are running in all three elections so we don’t have to the way of Seattle if we don’t want to.
We need more police in Renton. We’re understaffed. And I’m willing to pay for it.
Defunding the Renton Police Department is absolute nonsense. We need a better council.
There are six people running against Kim, any one of them would be an improvement.
Randy is a fine choice, but whatever you do, don’t forget to vote! It’s paramount for all out safety.
No one is defunding Renton police! That’s fake propaganda you picked up on Fox or talk radio.
My opinion on the election:
One of the most questionable recent decisions a Renton council member has made was defending a local puppy mill retailer notorious for charging customers exorbitant interest rates.
In my opinion, Renton’s current primary election is pivotal because we have the opportunity to vote Kim Khanh Van out of office.
Over her four-year term, the incumbent, Kim, has proven she is not our leader:
Kim’s failure to vote for the improvement of services provided by our human service partners has led to poorly managed programs. This has caused discontent in our neighborhoods and hindered our efforts to assist the less fortunate.
In her hasty push to support police defunding, Kim overlooked the necessity of a comprehensive plan to reduce crime, turning a complex issue into a reckless political game.
Kim also viewed Renton as a minor stepping stone and ran for a county-wide election barely a year after being elected.
No matter where you stand politically, there are thoughtful alternatives that can provide the dedicated leadership our city needs.
I ask for your help to ensure that Renton thrives under a council that values the welfare of its residents (and puppies.)
Please, please, please return your ballot.
Oh… and about that puppy mill? Kim took a $500 donation from their lobbyist.
