Kenny and Anastasia show their technique on the new community center dance floor
We recently installed a new wood floor in a recreation room at the Community Center, to make it into a first class dance studio for Renton citizens. It is available for classes, and for individual rental at the very reasonable price of 20 dollars per hour (for city residents).
My son Kenny and his wife Anastasia have been renting it weekly, just to work on their own dance techniques. Cathy and I have joined them some weeks, and we are trying to get better at Tango.
Now Sidewalks but money for dance floors
I would prefer it if the city would spend some of my hard earned tax dollars to fix the crumpbling sidewalks in my community before the spend more of my money on any more dance floors. The priorities in this city of Renton are upside down.
Re: Now Sidewalks but money for dance floors
We have budgeted about a half million dollars per year for sidewalks repair, replacement, and missing links. WE have prioritized them based on condition, risk to pedestrians, and use by school children. Feel free to send a letter to city hall to ensure yours is on the work list. The money comes out of the general fund.. property taxes, utility taxes and sales taxes. Occasionally, we can get new development or a state or federal grant to help us, and we are working now to get financial-stimulus dollars.
The dance floor gets paid for by rental fees, which is entirely different. Most people are not willing to pay twenty- dollars-per-hour for a new sidewalk in front of their house 🙂
