Unless this guy had yard signs from other candidates in his home, he was clearly targeting Marcie’s campaign, and should be punished to the fullest extent of the law for his antics. And I’m coming from the perspective of someone who was falsely accused of stealing signs last year, so I don’t take such accusations lightly. Fortunately for me, the accuser’s baseless accusations backfired in a most ironic way, and I was fully exonerated. This guy, on the other hand, is at the very least going to have to spend money on an attorney, and I hope he’s made an example of by the prosecutors, even if he just ends up with community service. Maybe he’ll end up collecting trash around Renton schools, under Marcie’s supervision?
Can’t forget comedy like that 🙂
he he… yes, I remember it well. A candidate accused you of sign stealing but I warned my readers to be suspicious of the accusation; then, a couple days later, the police followed up on the license plate and determined that the accuser’s supporters were actually stealing YOUR signs!!! Too ironic!…
That’s one of the reasons I warned readers this time not to jump to conclusions.
I noticed one of the media releases made it sound like there were at least a few other signs, other than Marcie’s, so I’m going to wait and see what the police say.
Since they have a suspect, I’m sure they will eventually get to the motive. And hopefully they will treat this investigation as an APE case…i.e. an Acute Political Emergency!
Re: Can’t forget comedy like that 🙂
Actually, no one proved that her supporter stole one of my signs (although that’s what the witness ultimately came to believe) — the culprit said she was simply taking one of the candidate’s signs for use in her own front yard. Riiiiiiight. In any case, the end result was far better than I could’ve ever imagined — kind of like seeing someone try to throw mud but having a strong wind blow it back into their face. But it was very upsetting at the time to be publicly accused (in the friggin’ Seattle Times!) of doing something unethical and illegal. Fortunately, the Times ran a follow-up story, which I was able to proudly post in the lunchroom at work!
Yes, let’s assume Mr. Goulet is innocent until proven guilty. Perhaps he has a creative explanation for why he was hoarding 138 of Marcie’s signs. Maybe he just really likes the colors green and purple.
