Written by I’ve openly shared my disagreement with the idea of homeland security “checkpoints” along our state highways, as seeming too unconstitutional and orwellian to me. (Click here to see my last entry on the subject.) Enforcing immigration at our borders is one thing, but stopping our citizens randomly and asking for documents and explanations seems like a clear fourth ammendment violation to me. Homeland Security has argued that checkpoints are allowed within 100 miles of a state border based on a supreme court ruling; but I and many others believe they have misinterpreted the ruling–permanent checkpoints are allowed within a 100 mile zone as necessary to patrol for incoming visitors in remote areas; the high court did not say they can set up random checkpoints to question travelers their daily travels between cities within our state.
So this program has been extremely controversial, as locals have been inconvenienced and frightened, and international visitors have been detained and harrased. In a few cases, alleged immingration violators have been captured and arrested, but questions remain whether any of these arrests would withstand constitutional challenge through the US Supreme Court. Meanwhile, families of those arrrested are in tears while the tough-talking head of the effort, Joseph Giuliano, tells them how bad their loved ones are.
Well, today it was announced that Joseph Giuliano–the face of this effort– has , by his own admission, been raping a 14-year old girl on a regular basis for many, many months.
Life is so full of sick ironies that it can make your head spin.
I know this man is just one bad apple among a group of hard-working agents that are trying to protect us. But he, the sick child-rapist, appears to be the one IN CHARGE of this program. ALL his decisions are now suspect. Meanwhile, as I’ve said before, these checkpoints should be eliminated and the agents reassigned at our borders and our ports.
Holy smokes.
Time to reexamine why anyone’s advocating a militant, paranoid mindset in a place that has never needed it.
They caught one ‘terrorist’ in Port Angeles years ago and the border patrol were where they were supposed to be(at the border), doing their jobs.

Between the destruction of our constitution, our economy, the federal agencies now stacked with industry insiders, not to mention the perversion of justice at the DOJ, President Obama has his work cut out for him! Thank you as always for standing on the side of what’s right.

President Obama; let voter fraud prevail, corruption go unabated, who cares if he can get a sweatheart land deal with a convicted mobster! Talk about destrcution of our constitution- beginning his carreer with the support and guidence of a domestic terroist, who to this day, wishes he had killed and maimed his enemies through more effective bombs? How is this guy not on death row?
Long shot, but President McCain sound so much more sane.

Let me get this straight. Any location within 100 miles of a border (state or federal) can have a random highway (or byway) check stop. I assume that this would be a place where the police (or whatever federal agency is running the show) would check ID, and what else? A car strip search?
When did this start? How did this start? How does this not impact inter-state commerce? How on earth is this legal? Of all the things that I’ve heard of, this seems like the most scary. If we get used to getting stopped to “show our papers”, we have half-way to the communist state that we fought against for many decades. Where is the ACLU? Where is the Libertarian party? Where is anyone who isn’t run by fear.
For anyone who hasn’t been bowling for columbine, rent this movie. Dont’ be distracted by Michael Moore and his policitics – focus on the message of the movie, the nature of fear and the media.
