Subject: Hotel inquiry
Hi Diane,
It occurred to me that you might be following up on a recent article in the Renton Reporter and on Randy Corman’s blog.
We do not know where Randy Corman got his numbers, as he did not ask us.
His list included vacant hotels that were purchased by King County for Health Through Housing, some of which have been converted to emergency housing and some of which have been converted to permanent housing. That program is managed by the King County Department of Community and Health Services.
Please note that the King County Regional Homelessness Authority (KCRHA) is a separate and independent entity from King County.
Below is a list of hotel programs funded by KCRHA:
- Reclaim Snoqualmie Valley (voucher, Sno Valley only has one shelter)
- Angeline’s, Seattle (YWCA, voucher, women only, closing at end of year)
- New Bethlehem, Kirkland (CCS, partial hotel)
- Kings Inn, Seattle (closed)
- Congregations for the Homeless, Bellevue (voucher)
- Civic Hotel, Seattle (PDA, Right of Way work, not time limited)
Not KCRHA funded (both closed – these were the LEC hotels)
- Inn at Lake Washington in Renton
- Kent Quality Inn
According to our data:
- 5,695 people enrolled in the homeless emergency response system (through street outreach, Coordinated Entry, or a housing program) report one of the South King County cities as their city of last residence.
- South King County has a total of just 529 emergency shelter beds, 74% of which are reserved for families or women with children.
- Only 2 emergency shelters in South King allow drop-in guests, which further limits access to shelter and support services.
You can view all shelter options in our Regional Services Database.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Anne
