Our Planning/ Building/Public Works Director gave us an update on NE 95th Street near Duvall Ave. Anyone interested in the so-far-under-repaired trench in the road may be interested. on I want to give you an update on the status of the un-repaired utility trench
along SE 95th Way near the intersection with Duvall (Coal Creek Parkway).
Today, Feb. 12, the City has retained Northwest Asphalt to perform a hot patch
repair of the trench, at a cost estimated to be up to $14,000. This work has
been completed. These charges will be billed to the Christelle Ridge
developers.
The Christelle Ridge Development is a subdivision in Renton that has access from
SE 95th Way, a King County street. The contractor for the development installed
utilities in SE 95th Way and provided temporary trench restoration. The
restoration they did is not acceptable, and has resulted in a 300-foot long
trench in the street. We have been trying unsuccessfully for weeks to get the
developer to fix the trench. Meanwhile we have been getting complaints from
both King County and commuters and residents about the deteriorated and
potentially unsafe condition of the street.
Now that Newcastle will close Coal Creek Parkway at the May Creek Bridge for 3 days and we are a couple of months away from
closing Duvall (with SE 95th Way being one of the detour routes) I have decided
that we need to take action. We simply could not wait for the
developer/contractor to fix this safety concern any longer. Through the efforts
of Mike Stenhouse, we have contracted with Northwest Asphalt to do a hot patch
repair of the street. When we receive their bill, estimated to be in the
$12,000 to $14,000 range, we will charge the developer and use their posted
street bond, and if necessary lien the property, to recover our costs.
